There are over 1,400 species of bats in the world, and they range drastically in both size and shape; anywhere between a Kitti's hog-nosed bat (also known as a Bumblebee Bat) that weighs less than a penny, all the way to a flying fox whose wingspan can get as large as 6 feet across.  Bats are the only flying mammal and some can reach flying speeds of over 100 miles per hour.  If you ever get the chance to experience the emergence of the Mexican free-tail bat colony from under the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin, Texas, do it! The colony is estimated to have 1.5 million bats, which makes it the largest urban bat colony in North America.
