The names of full moons go back to the ancient cultures who originally named them to track the months and seasons of the year. In present day, some people track the names to the old Farmer's almanac and others go all the way back to Native American tribes. This calendar highlights the name of every month's full moon. You will see a buck moon, a snow moon, a sturgeon moon, even a worm moon, to name a few. We have highlighted the days of each month's full moon in a light color to make them easier to see.
Moon or lunar calendars are adjusted every year according to moon phases. A full lunar phase cycle takes approximately 29.5 days which means there are 12 full moons in most years, but some years will have an 'extra' full moon. When this happens, the second full moon in the month is called a 'blue moon.' There were no blue moons in 2024 or 2025, but the month of May will have two full moons, making the one scheduled for May 31 a 'blue moon.'
